Serious risks

• EGR valve and cooler failure: EGR valve clogs and EGR cooler can crack. Causes loss of power, rough idle, and coolant contamination in severe cases.
• Swirl flap failure: Intake swirl flaps can break — debris can enter engine. Many owners remove/blank them as preventive measure.
• Timing belt + water pump: Belt every 100,000 km. Interference engine. Always change water pump with belt.
• Car is 14 years old — expect age-related wear: rubber seals, bushings, water pump, AC compressor
• Higher mileage (176,160 km) — check for timing system condition, turbo health, and suspension wear

Additional notes

• Opel Astra diesel very common in Bulgaria (1100+ listings). City-only driving clogs DPF quickly. EGR valve carbon buildup and turbo actuator failure are frequent issues at 100k+ km.
• Diesel car from before 2018 with very low mileage suggests city-only use — DPF is likely clogged or has been removed (illegal). Check DPF status and EGR condition.
• Insignia diesel auto (160 listings, avg 216k km, €7k) — 2.0 CDTi (A20DTH) has known timing chain stretch issues beyond 150k km. Automatic is usually Aisin TF-80SC which needs fluid change at 60k (almost never done in BG). At 200k+: chain, tensioner, and guide replacement is €1500-2500.
• Opel Astra diesel (491+ listings at 150k+, avg 225k km, €3.8k). At this mileage 1.6 CDTi timing chain is stretched (€1200-2000 to replace), 2.0 CDTi has better chain but injectors and turbo are worn. Many ex-fleet from Germany/France with highway miles — check if DMF has been replaced.
